| From the end of last weeks report;
“This week with the tide pattern returning to early morning highs, I expect the action to improve throughout the week. Some of the larger fish have made their way well up river in search of river herring and fresher fish are arriving every day. I expect this early season striper action to continue strong with more and larger fish entering the estuary.” And I have to say - right on! We fished Tuesday through Friday and had good numbers of 20 to 43 inch stripers throughout the week. Tuesday was real good, several keeper fish up to 40”. Wednesday the fishing slowed due the cold front dropping in. The strong N/W wind made for some tough fly casting and extra fast drifts. Thursday and Friday the fishing picked up with good numbers of keepers on Friday including a nice 43 inch on Capt Al’s boat. I landed 3 nice stripers of 39, 36 and 30 inches. All fish were released. Other highlights included ½ dozen bluefish caught in the flats and all on the fly. I have on good source that of stripers in the 30 lb range have been taken at night on live eels in the flats.
