Merrimack River Report
The action continues reasonable for blues and bass, especially at the rivers mouth and south along the beach. Capt Al is still hitting them hard up inside at the tide top on the Joppa. Joe W. is seeing some quality fish while drifting the flats at night with eels. Water temps are running well into the 70’s soon after the tide drops and most of the stripers will drop down to the Badgers or further to the mouth to escape the warmer river water. We had good success on a mixed bag of blues and bass at the river mouth and south to Crane Beach. Lots of small sandeels as well. A fifty + striper was taken last w/e on chunk bait. The reasonable action should continue in those areas as long as the sandeels persist.
Cape Ann Report
The striper fishing is slow along the Gloucester and Rockport shoreline. I don’t expect to see it improve anytime soon given that the bait is well offshore or up to the north at Crane and Plum Island. I fished several hours during the week with only a few fish landed….. Steve P is reporting the same low numbers for the hours put in along the shore this past week. We need a push of baitfish to get things heated up.
