The past week was one of contrasts, great fishing one day, and not so good the next day. The “off bite” can be attributed to fast moving weather fronts. The cold front that came through late Wednesday shut down what was a predictable, solid bite through mid week. Water temps along the shoreline dropped some 7 degrees from the mid 60’s to the upper 50’s. Friday the bite was on big, lots of birds working over mixed schools of stripers and blues. We had fish from Straitsmouth Island on down the coast to Salt Island. The best action was off Pebble Beach. The birds and fish were feeding on huge schools of immature peanut bunker. We had excellent success with top water hard baits, swimmers and a variety of soft plastics. A lesser impact cold front came through late Friday and the bite turned off somewhat again on Saturday.

![]() We have nothing new on the tuna bite to report this week. We do expect the tuna to get going over the next few weeks. We hope to get offshore this week and see what’s happening.
Merrimack River Report | Capt Al reported that the flats and river mouth was fishing very well the first part of last week. The river water temps have remained cooler than they have been the past few seasons (due in part to overall low upriver water flows) and the daytime fishing was looking like it did some 20 or 30 years ago. Over this past weekend however, the fishing action in the estuary dropped off considerably as water temps rose to the high 70’s. Maybe this is the start of the summer doldrums.
| Anglers trolling tube n’ worm rigs along the channel edges are taking good numbers of stripers of all sizes. We have a report of two stripers of 50 pounds taken last week; not sure where or how. Nighttime eel fishing remained solid last week as well. |
