Merrimack River Report
The fishing here continues to be the best in the area with some blitzes going off up and down the beach just about every day with stripers and blues going at it together! The live mack anglers are still getting quality stripers at the mouth and up in the Badgers on the rising tide. The Joppa has good numbers of stripers present especially with the cooler flood tide water. You should be able to find pods of 25 to 30 inch fish just to the north along the beach and tight to the north jetty, but these fish right now have a bit of lock jaw (!) , but patience will be your reward if you persist with flies or small topwater baits. There is lots of bait at the mouth and along the beaches keeping the stripers there and satiated.

Tom Sheehy with his fly caught 45 inch striper from last week...nice fish Tom!!!

Cape Ann Report
I don’t want to sound like a broken record, but the Cape Ann fishing continues on the slow side, relative to previous seasons. There are stripers to be had if you put the time in, but it is no way as easy as it was just a few seasons back. I fished several mornings this past week with some success including a super 40 incher on Tuesday. I thought the vid-cam was running but it wasn’t so, no pics or vids to show you. Overall we averaged about 5 stripers per outing, 4-5 hours.

Steve P. bagged a great 48.5 inch striper at Good Harbor Beach Thursday morning before sun up. He hooked the cow on an Ocean Lures Surf Plug, Golden Yellow. Unfortunately, he forgot his camera and did not get a pic before releasing her. There was a good blues bite going Thursday morning around Andrews Point, from shore, same as last week. If you're looking for blues this weekend, I would start at Andrews and work towards Halibut Point. The brutes are running big, up to 12 pounds.

The shore and boat bait chunkers are getting a few quality fish here and there, but are being very quiet about exactly where they are fishing….my guess is that they are fishing along the rocks south from Gloucester Harbor to Manchester.

Paul and son Zev with a nice schoolie
