| As was the case last week, there are very good numbers of stripers and blues around the area. There have been some “good bites” happening at different Cape Ann locations from just offshore to right up on the beach areas. The back shore is heating up with some larger bass (40 inch +) moving in at different times of day. Back Beach in Rockport had several good bites going last week, in the morning and afternoon. We found large schools of actively feeding bluefish from Thatcher all way up to Halibut point. Most of these fish are averaging 8-9 pounds. I expect the fall fishing to improve going forward. There is significant quantity of bait near shore and well offshore and our current offshore winds should help get the “bites” going even better. We are now seeing a fair number of school tuna showing offshore from south of Thatcher on up to the north beyond Halibut. Capt Allan Smith and expert tuna angler Bart Waldo hooked and landed a few fish last week including a super 90 pound fish. If the bait and weather hold, the tuna bite should get better.
